Problem:Teens and Their Insecurities

Everyone goes through phases as they grow and mature, and everyone knows that teenagers are the ones who go through the most difficulties associated with identity. However, not everyone knows the extent of an individual's struggles.  Judgement from peers create insecurities in kids and can cause disorders, depression, self-harm, social anxiety, and more. We are aiming to find solutions and help teens deal with these issues.

Statistics show majority of teenagers from the ages 13 to 19 have admitted of feeling insecure or not confident at some point in time.  These feelings are caused from physical, social, and mental factors, whether it's body shape, the way they talk, or their interests.

Here's a website on more information about students and self-worth: http://www.stageoflife.com/StageHighSchool/OtherResources/Statistics_on_High_School_Students_and_Teenagers.aspx

In Psychology Today, the topic of teen insecurities is discussed. Teenage insecurities can have long-term effects if not handle early. Beverly Flexington writes, "Trouble sleeping, aggression, withdrawal, clinical anxiety, and depression are among the issues that insecure teens struggle most with."  She goes on to conclude that kids with these issues and who are uneducated on coping with them usually take dangerous and unhealthy measures, which include drug abuse and eating disorders.

  2. This topic is relatable to almost all ages, and it could be expanded to young adults as well as teenagers. Insecurities are a major issue in today's world because of how society wants us to picture ourselves with a stereotypical look. Most teens feel like they have to live up to this "perfect" image and thus are depressed or discouraged because they cannot meet the standards of society.
